Campus Programs

We are looking forward to a great semester of Healthy Monday programs and hope you are just as excited as we are.  Read on to learn more about the ways you can stay healthy on campus.  Healthy Monday programs are open to any member of our Syracuse University community and they are always free to participate.

Move it Monday

Get fit with a free fitness class offered in partnership with Recreation Services.  Fitness classes are held in the Flanagan Fitness Studio on Mondays during the academic semester.  Classes do not require pre-registration so feel free to drop in, but come early, these classes fill up quickly!  We offer a variety of classes so this is  a great way to try something new and if you love it, check with Recreation Services as they offer many of these classes as semester-long courses.  All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend the Move it Monday free classes, but don’t forget your SU ID- it is required for entrance to Archbold.

Move it Monday fitness classes for the fall 2017 semester will begin on Monday, September 11th.  Classes are held from 5:15-6:00pm in the Flanagan Fitness Studio.  Download the schedule here.  There will be no class held on November 20th.



Monday Mile

No time to attend a fitness class?  No problem!  Check out the two Monday Mile routes on campus and enjoy a one mile walk through north and south campuses.  The route on north campus begins in front of Schine Student Center, the route on south campus is a great walk from Goldstein Student Center out to Colvin and back.

The Monday Mile is a great way for anyone to get fit.  The Inclusive Fitness Initiative has created a how-to guide for creating inclusive fitness clubs using the Monday Mile.  You can download this excellent resource here: How to Create an Inclusive Walking Club.

Be sure to join us this fall on campus for Walktober, our annual month-long walking initiative and competition, offered in partnership with the University Wellness Initiative.



Meatless Monday

Meatless Monday Try Me

SU Food Services offers a wide selection of healthy meatless dining options every day of the week.  Whether you are eating in one of the dining centers or campus cafes you can find a variety of options you’ll enjoy.  Don’t worry, if you are craving a burger you’ll still find them on campus on Mondays- Meatless Monday is all about choice.  However, with so many choices you might just enjoy trying something new for Meatless Monday like a coconut crusted tofu or creole red beans and rice.




Mindful Monday

Healthy Monday Zen Meditation


Explore the many benefits of meditation with a Healthy Monday meditation every Monday at noon in Hendricks small chapel.  This class offers meditation instruction and practice for any member of the SU community.  Each session begins with 15 minutes of instruction and time to settle in followed by 30 minutes of quiet contemplation and 15 minutes of debriefing and discussion.  All skill levels and faith traditions are welcome.  This mindfulness practice can help improve attention and focus, reduce stress and promote relaxation.  Wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing.

Yoga Seeds will continue in the fall in partnership with the Contemplative Collaborative. Led by instructor Dara Harper, this course will create a strong foundation for beginners and will build strength for seasoned practitioners.  Dara teaches pose precision and helps students achieve anatomical alignment. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or towel if you are able.

Weekly Free Fruit

Healthy Monday free fruit

Every Monday morning during the academic semester, we provide free, fresh fruit to our campus community at Archbold, Marshall Square Mall and Ernie Davis fitness centers, Health Services, People’s Place coffee shop in Hendricks Chapel and the Campus Activities Building at SUNY Upstate.  Stop in and start your week with a healthy snack!
