All community members are invited to join the Healthy Monday team on Monday, June 5th at 11:00 AM to walk the new Monday Mile route along Onondaga Creek Parkway near Kirk Park! We will be meeting rain or shine in front of the Start/Finish sign at the intersection of Onondaga Creek Parkway and West Brighton Avenue and there is available parking on Hunt Avenue off of W. Brighton Avenue. The Monday Mile, an initiative of the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion at Syracuse University encourages people to get physically active by developing safe and accessible walking spaces throughout the local community.
This new loop incorporates the new Inclusive Monday Mile Policy created in partnership with Healthy Monday Syracuse, HealtheConnections, the Fitness Inclusion Network, the Inclusive Recreation Resource Center at SUNY Cortland and the City of Syracuse Department of Parks and Recreation. The Inclusive Monday Mile Policy states that when planning a new Monday Mile route the staff of the Lerner Center will work with the staff of the organization(s) that want to create a Monday Mile in their community. They will go through a checklist of considerations to improve inclusivity, assess the feasibility of various route options, and design the route to make sure it maximizes accessibility for people of all abilities. The Lerner Center is committed to building upon the work that we and our partners have begun to support and encourage all of Onondaga County community members to get active with the Monday Mile!
